To coincide with the re-exhibition of the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre (HISC) proposal, Newcastle Basketball has launched a project web page that includes a ‘fly-through’ and interactive floor plan.
“We’ve developed some more information and images for HISC to help sport lovers and the general community to get a better feel for the project. For the first time, everyone can get a virtual look inside the building and see many of the activities that will take place,” said Project Consultant, Simon Haire.
The ‘virtual tour’ complements detailed information available through the re-exhibition of the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) on the major project planning portal.
The exhibition period will run for four weeks (from 21 August) and in addition to information on the website, Newcastle Basketball will facilitate ‘drop in’ sessions to provide the opportunity for community members to ask questions about the project.

The new state significant facility is set to replace the aging Newcastle Basketball Centre and will secure the long-term future of indoor sport in the region. Beyond its sporting benefits, the project plays a key role in advancing the Broadmeadow Place Strategy, paving the way for essential new housing and urban renewal in the area.
“This is a vital community project that will break down barriers to participation in sport and physical activity,’ said Newcastle Basketball Vice President Larry Davidson. ‘It will support a range of sports including basketball, volleyball, badminton, netball, futsal, and pickleball. The facility is designed to be fully accessible and inclusive, ensuring people of all ages and abilities can be physically and socially active in a community atmosphere.”
“We’d encourage everyone who supports the project to make a submission via the planning portal to ensure the Department of Planning understands the need for the facility and the benefits it will create,” Mr Davidson said.
