Newcastle Basketball acknowledges that submissions made on the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) process to construct the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre have been made public.
We welcome these submissions and the subsequent request for responses as a necessary and expected part of the SSDA process.
On September 20, after 18 months of work with community and stakeholders, Newcastle Basketball formally lodged a State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre, which included 45 detailed reports as part of the application.
These reports have now been assessed, and we have been asked by the NSW Government’s Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to provide a response to submissions made while the SSDA was open for public exhibition.
It has always been Newcastle Basketball’s position that the independent assessment of this application is the most appropriate way to determine the suitability of our proposal, a position that was also recently unanimously supported by City of Newcastle (CN) Councillors.
We are currently reviewing the submissions received and will respond in accordance with the SSDA process and timelines. Newcastle Basketball will continue to work with all stakeholders in our community to ensure this facility works for everyone.
