Kingham ready to lead the Falcons towards back-to-back Championships in 2025

Newcastle Basketball are excited to welcome reigning women’s NBL1 East Champion and Captain, Kate Kingham back to the Club in 2025.

The Newcastle junior has been an integral member of the Falcons over a number of seasons and led the team to an NBL1 East Championship this year. On the court, Kate impacts the game on both ends of the floor and averaged 8.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game in 2024.

Falcons Head Coach Kristy Bultitude is excited see Kate lead the team again in the upcoming season.

“It’s great for Newcastle to see our Captain Kate Kingham return for the 2025 NBL1 season,” Bultitude said.

“Kate has exceptional talent, has high expectations and leads by example. Her team first attitude and passion for the game ensures a high level of respect amongst her peers and the coaching staff.”

“Kate’s preparation and dedication ensures she is ready for any battle and one should never underestimate her shooting ability and her tenacity at the defensive end of the court.”

As the upcoming season approaches, Kate is motivated by the opportunity of securing back-to-back championships with the Falcons.

Reflecting on the team’s success in the previous season, Kate shared, “We worked really hard on and off the court and had a great culture within both our team and the whole women’s program. I think that really showed on the court with how connected we were.”

The bond among the team, along with the unwavering support from fans, has made Kate proud to represent her home town.

“I just love it. The community here and the fans are the best in the East, I believe. It just makes me want to come back for more each season. I’ve just loved the group and the coaching staff that we’ve had each year.”

One of Kate’s most cherished milestones has been stepping into the leadership role of team captain in 2024.

“I’ve always looked up to those that have captained the women’s team and that’s always been a dream and a goal of mine, so it was amazing to live that through. I feel like I learned so much last season working alongside the Club and our coaching staff and I’m just so excited to be doing that again, to keep growing and be the best captain I can be.”

Looking ahead, Kate’s focus is clear: bringing another championship banner home for Newcastle. “The main goal is to bring another banner home. To go back-to-back would be so amazing for Newcastle and for the women’s program. And just to keep building on that culture that we have started building in previous seasons.”
