Newcastle Basketball is thrilled to announce the re-signing of reigning two-time NBL1 East MVP, Nicole Munger, for the 2025 season.

Munger, a standout guard from the University of Michigan, has been a cornerstone of the Newcastle Falcons women’s program over the past three seasons, and her impact both on and off the court has been immense.

Across the 2024 season, Munger was a consistent force averaging 24.6 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and 2.4 steals per game, while shooting an efficient 50% from the field, earning her the NBL1 East MVP trophy for the second consecutive year.

In addition, Nicole helped lead Newcastle to an NBL1 East Championship, securing a thrilling 85-78 victory over the Sutherland Sharks in the Grand Final. Munger was named the Grand Final MVP after delivering 22 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, and two steals, including the final 11 points of the game.

“I’m thrilled to again have the two-time MVP of the league return to Newcastle for the 2025 NBL1 season,” Head Coach Kristy Bultitude said.

“Nicole brings a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and leadership to our group.”

Bultitude also highlighted the unique qualities that make Nicole’s impact go beyond her on-court performance.

“Nicole’s basketball speaks for itself, and she leads by example, however, it is the passion, drive and connection she has with staff, players and community that makes this signing even more special.”

Munger, who is currently playing for the Canberra Capitals in the WNBL, capped off 50 league games over the weekend with a strong performance, finishing with 24-points (6/11 3pt) and 7 rebounds. She expressed her enthusiasm at returning to Newcastle following the completion of the WNBL season.

“I’m so excited to be returning to Newcastle for the 2025 season! There’s nothing like the energy of the Falcons fans and the bond we have as a team,” Nicole said.

“Defending our championship title is a challenge we’re ready to take on together, and I can’t wait to hit the court and try to help make it happen.”

Nicole also shared her gratitude towards the club and community for their support. “A huge thank you to Ian, Kristy, the club, the board, all our sponsors, and everyone who worked so hard to make this possible. Your belief and support mean everything, and I’m excited to represent this incredible community again.”

Nicole expressed excitement about one special moment at the beginning of the season, “I’m especially looking forward to officially raising the championship banner at our first home game – it will be an unforgettable moment to celebrate and honour last year’s squad. I look forward to seeing all our fans there!”

Catch Nicole and the Falcons in action at their 2025 season home opener on Saturday 29 March against the Sydney Comets at Newcastle Basketball Stadium. It will be an exciting night as the Women will raise their 2024 Championship Banner before tip-off.
