The McDonald Jones Newcastle Falcons are excited to welcome Japanese point guard Rio Yamazaki for the 2025 NBL1 Season.
Yamazaki brings valuable collegiate experience competing in both Canada and the United States. Most recently, she played for Acadia University in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) league, where she posted season highs of 27 points and 7 assists during the 2023/24 season.
Before joining Acadia, Rio competed at Olds College in Canada, averaging 15.6 points, 6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. Her journey also included time at Miami Dade College and IMG Academy (High School) in Florida, further adding to her diverse playing experience.
“I’m excited to see Rio have the opportunity to make her mark on the NBL1 League,” Head Coach Kristy Bultitude said.
“She suits our style of play, while her speed and ability to finish around the rim will create many opportunities for us as a group.”
The Falcons women and men will play their 2025 season home opener on Saturday 29 March against the Sydney Comets. See the full 2025 NBL1 East Draw HERE.
