Newcastle Basketball confirms that Chief Executive Officer Ian Mckensey has officially stepped down from his position due to personal reasons, with his departure to take effect at the end of May.

During his tenure, Ian led the organisation through a period of significant growth and activity, with record participation across programs and renewed momentum for the development of the proposed new indoor sports facility.

“The CEO role is a really big job at the moment, because our programs are as popular as ever. Managing that within the ageing infrastructure of the current stadium, whilst at the same time leading the development application and seeking additional funding for the new indoor sports facility, is a significant undertaking,” Newcastle Basketball Chair Erica James said.

“Ian did a terrific job for us, and the board thanks him for his tenure with the association. We’re now in the process of working out what makes sense moving forward and exploring options.”

“Whilst Ian did a great job and we’ve got some work to do to replace him, it’s not going to have any implications on what we can deliver as an organisation,” James added.

Newcastle Basketball remains committed to its strategic priorities, including the continued growth of participation, the delivery of quality competitions, and the advancement of the new indoor sports facility project.

Further announcements regarding the management of the Association will be made in the coming weeks.
