Are you a strategic thinker and values-driven leader with a passion for sport and community impact? Basketball Association of Newcastle Limited (BANL), the premier basketball organisation in the Hunter region, is seeking an experienced Board Director with strong lobbying and government relations expertise to help guide its continued growth and contribution to the sport.

What we are looking for:

We are calling for nominations from candidates who have:

  • A strong background in government relations, advocacy and lobbying, with proven success influencing policy and decision-making at local, state, or federal level.
  • Deep political awareness and understanding of government processes and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Highly developed persuasive communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver impactful submissions and briefings.
  • Backgrounds in law, public policy, politics, communications, PR, or related fields will be highly regarded, along with experience in not-for-profit, sporting, or community sectors.
  • a clear understanding of Director’s duties under the Corporations Act and good governance practices. Governance training (e.g. AICD, GIA, Sport Australia) will be highly regarded.

Commitment:

  • You will be appointed as a Director for a term of 2 years.
  • The Board meets in-person 11 times per year.
  • Contribution to board subcommittees is encouraged – this appointment will be required to work closely with the Project Control Group for the Hunter Indoor Sports Stadium.
  • Participation in occasional strategic planning sessions and community events.

Remuneration:

This is a voluntary position. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred in fulfilling Board duties will be reimbursed.
